It is seen as a mellow and peaceful, the sound of a summer’s breeze blowing through on a pastoral day, the un-intrusive sound of a paradise. Yet like all native musics it is a collection of many sounds, each adding something a little different, forming a collective dynamic.
Most notably it is the lucidity of the music, this is a sound that has contributed largely to the whole soundscape of America, with Hawaii’s contribution being rather vast and disproportionate in spite of its relatively small size in the grand scheme of the States.
Styles such as the slack-key guitar have contributed majorly to modern rock and pop music, and we hear this as a sound of America, perpetuated throughout American soundtracks, as a sound of freedom and abandon.
The steel-guitar is now popular with blues musicians the world over and has found itself a firm staple within country music, notably with Patsy Cline, appearing on some of the most beloved American songs of all time.
Though Hawaiian music itself is a strange concoction of styles and reference points. A truly pan national semblance of other native musics, punctuated by a deeply Hawaiian presentation. We see this embracive approach to music quite clearly in the form known as Jawaiian.
Jawaiian is the somewhat tongue in cheek name for what is essentially a Hawaiian Reggae. Since its popularisation in the sixties and seventies, Reggae music has become popular over the world especially with marginalised communities such as native Americans and aborigines. In Hawaii ethnic Hawaiians started playing around with the style in the 80s creating their own approach to this distinctly Caribbean music.
The band Simplisity were widely credited as the pioneers of Jawaiian music, promoted by the Honolulu record company Quiet Storm Records. From its birth Jawaiian became very popular, coming to practically dominate the Hawaiian music scene by the early nineties.
Reggae culture in general remains popular in Hawaii, it is hard to work down the street and not see a local sporting a Bob Marley T-shirt, and much local memorabilia comes emblazoned with the Ethiopia flag colours, a nod to the Rastafarian culture proliferated through Reggae.
The traditionally African American form of Jazz also took off in Hawaii in quite a big way in the first half of the 20th century, with musicians enjoying its expression of oppression.
There are many noted names within the Hawaiian jazz canon, with a good number still alive and active, these names include: Henry Allan, Adam Baron, Vic Castelinni, in a list that goes on and on.
Baron is still very much active within the Hawaiian jazz scene today, performing with his band the Honolulu Jazz Quartet.
Honolulu perhaps offers the most access to jazz gigs with a university venue that encourages the form and books local groups very frequently.
Though you don’t especially need to find a venue to appreciate the music here, it is largely running through the streets, playing on most corners.

It can be the most amazing thing ever you hear or it can be the worst thing to happen in the history of music. It’s time for another singer to out-grow the shell of his previous band and try to make it all on his own in this big wide world of music. Shuffling into the limelight unaccompanied is Miles Kane. The former Rascals singer will be playing a Stoke gig at The Underground, on Monday 8th November, ahead of the release of his debut single.
Kane is (Arctic Monkey) Alex Turner’s right-hand man as the other half of The Last Shadow Puppets. The band had instant success, recording their album in two weeks and getting to number one and springing Kane into the spotlight, perhaps larely on the back of Turner’s fame. Without an Arctic Monkey by his side Kane could be quivering in his brogues, as expectations are high on what he can achieve on his tod.
The single, Inhaler will be released on 22 November, with album rumours of the original surly Northern intellectual, Liam Gallagher, putting down some vocals for new boy Kane. Expect Kane’s signature indie-rock guitar and some Lennon-influenced acoustic.
Be the first to judge if he’s more than a lonely leather jacket and a mod haircut. Head over to one of Kane’s first ever solo shows and transform yourself into the Mystic Meg of Music (crystal ball optional) and predict what the future holds for Miles Kane.
But we know for certain about him continuing to put the finishing touches on his album before taking up a support slot with The Courteeners and that he will be playing the following few gigs. Kane is expected to mix new material with old favourites.

Miles Kane has confirmed the following solo dates:
November
8 Stoke The Underground
9 Leeds The Cockpit
11 Liverpool Mojo
12 Manchester Ruby Lounge

Electric Banana features the complete gig guide for Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Did you know that there are more than just one way to learn the guitar? I hope I can help you choose the one that is right for you.
Why don’t we see what we can choose from:
Private Instruction Class Room Instruction Learn How To Play The Guitar Online
Private Instruction
Let’s take a look at the positives. Many beginner guitarists start out with the private instruction. This way benefits a newbie a lot. You can be confident that you are holding the guitar correctly and playing chords the right way, since there is always someone to guide you in case you make a mistake. It is also great to keep yourself from slacking off, since the instructor will know if you have been practicing your lessons or not.
So, what are the downfalls to private instruction? First of all you have to go along with the instructor’s chosen pace. This means you will only learn as fast as the instructor’s lesson plans. This can really frustrate some people. We all learn at different levels. Also, it costs a lot of money for private instruction. I have not taken private guitar lessons for a long time. But, I remember the cost being $80/hr and I saw my instructor once a week for half and hour. The schedule is also an issue. Sometimes you will not use the proper technique when practicing, which means you just lost that whole week of practice. Back to the Drawing Board!
Class Room Instruction
So what about the pros of class room instruction? It’s the cost. You will pay the least amount of money with this method. This is also great if you are trying to find out if you even want to play the guitar. Any more pros? Not really. That’s about it.
I wouldn’t recommend class room instruction for people that get frustrated easily. The instructor can’t provide you with the individual help in case you are having difficulties or in case you are learning at a faster rate.
Online Beginner Guitar Lessons This, in my opinion, is the best way to learn guitar. When you learn how to play the guitar online you find yourself working at your own pace. You still get a live instructor, but it’s only once a week online, and you can ask him any questions that you have. And what’s great is that you can always play back the lessons until you can understand everything that you need to know. I think you are so lucky for having this option available to you. I didn’t have it when I first began. But if I did, this would definitely be the way I would have chosen. I know it wouldn’t have taken me half as long to learn guitar with this incredible feature. And it would have cost me just a fraction of what I had to pay! You can pay as little as $12.95/mo. and get great online guitar lessons. Tell me that’s not cheap! Also, with so many different instructors, you always get the latest techniques for learning the guitar. And you will always get updates on the latest techniques of playing the guitar. This is by far the best way to go!
Well, there are some cons with online guitar lessons for beginners. You are your own boss (which could be a good thing) when it comes to learning and practicing. If you are a poor self starter, then I wouldn’t recommend this to you. It might be too easy to quit. You may also jump ahead of your lessons, before you are ready. However, I will say this; for how little the cost, it’s certainly the best option available.

You may hear the words “Learning by ear” tossed around a lot if you’ve been thinking about learning to play piano, but what exactly does it mean?
There are different understanding about the term. So in this article I will explain the different between learning by notation (sheet music) and learning by ear. After reading this article you should have a clear understanding of what it means to learn to play piano by ear and be able to decide which method or mix of the two you’d most like to use when learning piano.
Perfect Pitch or Relative Pitch
Learning by ear is basically done when someone listens to a song and then attempts to reproduce the song until they get it right. This may take longer for beginners then more experienced piano players.
There are two terms used when describing players who learn by ear. They are perfect and relative pitch.
If you have relative pitch then you are able to detect the pattern being played and figure it out but you can not hear exactly what key the song is being played in. Your skills are targeted towards hearing the pattern of the chords in the song.
If you have perfect pitch then you are able to actually pick out what key the song is in just by hearing it. Perfect pitch is not seen as often as relative pitch.
Learning By Notation
The alternative to learning piano by ear is to learn by theory, notation and sheet music. The argument goes that those who learn by ear can only play from memory and those who learn by notation can only play from sheet music.
In reality the best situation is to ensure you learn a combination of the two methods. This way you’re well rounded and have the ability to pick songs out that you hear and reproduce them but also sit down and play from sheet music if the situation demands it.
Most self study programs and private instructors will spend time teaching you the basics of notation and theory as well as how to play by ear. Since each is a very specific skill practicing both is important.
If you haven’t yet decided how you’re going to take your piano lessons for beginners why not consider a piano lesson dvd? DVD self study lessons are quickly becoming the method of choice for adults to learn piano at home on their own time.

There are numerous stories all over the internet about “how to make money online” or “start your own web business”. Actually if you searched Google for those terms I doubt you could even go through the amount of results in your entire lifetime. Now whether any of these methods works or not is irrelevant. Without a web-host and a free SSL certificate, you will be hard pressed to make any sales at all.
First off, many do not even know what an SSL certificate is. Anytime a purchase transaction is done on the internet, it is transmitted over a publicly viewable connection. This means it is possible for someone to intercept the transmission and view (read: steal) the contents without anyone knowing this is being done. For obvious reasons, anyone selling items on the internet who allows their customers credit card numbers, addresses, and personal information to be stolen would not be in business long. Well, that and become the target of numerous impossible to defend lawsuits. The solution to this issue is knowing where to get a cheap SSL certificate online, or taking advantage of a free SSL certificate.
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. This creates an encrypted session during transmission which ensures the integrity of transmitted data. Your SSL certificate is installed directly on the server, which then operates in the background. So now that you know what a certificate is, the next question becomes where to get a cheap SSL certificate online? To answer this question, you have to know that there are free SSL certificates, and those that you pay for. A free SSL certificate is usually bundled with other web software that you need to operate your web business, or are often given away with the purchase of a yearly web-server contract. Now, assuming that you do not need any software, or already have that part covered, it comes down to price. Discovering where to get a cheap SSL certificate online by searching is the best option. As with all online services, shopping around is key to saving money. If it makes sense, take advantage of any free offers you can find. If that does not make sense, then shop around to various vendors to find the best deal on SSL for your website. They are quite easy to find using simple search terms in Google. Just realizing that you can achieve significant discounts through searching will save you a ton of money.
